Yi Jun highlights role of judiciary in sustainable development of platform economy
Yi Jun, vice-president of the Beijing Internet Court (BIC), delivered a keynote speech at the 2025 annual conference of the Peking University E-commerce Law Research Center on Dec 20.

Yi gave a briefing about cases involving e-commerce platforms that were handled by the court, and spotlighted a number of typical issues regarding operation of such platforms.
According to Yi, as the integration between the platform economy and the real economy accelerates and gives rise to new industries and business forms, many challenges emerge for legislation and judiciary in safeguarding data security, preventing algorithm infringement and carrying out cross-border supervision.
Yi called for consolidated legal foundations to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the platform economy. He also stressed that platforms should be governed on the basis of laws and regulations, making the rule of law a fundamental principle in maintaining a steady and robust platform economy.
Yi added that following the readjustment of its jurisdiction, the BIC will give full play to its role in setting judicial precedents and promoting platform governance. By defining the boundaries of rights and responsibilities for participants in the digital economy, the court aims to strengthen cyberspace governance, address the public's judicial needs, and ultimately safeguard the high-quality development of the digital economy, he added.

The top ten typical cases in e-commerce law in 2025 were released at the meeting as well. Two cases adjudicated by the BIC, one involving a platform operator's joint liability and another related to AI deepfake of celebrity voice, were among them.
