BIC launches digital judge and guidebook for online protection of minors
A digital judge called "Xiao Wei" and a guidebook for online protection of minors were launched by Beijing Internet Court (BIC) on July 17, during the inauguration ceremony of the juvenile online literacy education practice base.
Representatives from government departments including the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Beijing High People's Court and the Beijing People's Procuratorate, as well as those from schools and internet enterprises, attended the event.
President of the BIC Jiang Ying, standing member of the BIC's Adjudication Committee Sun Mingxi and representatives from the BIC's third Comprehensive Division (juvenile tribunal) also attended the event, which was hosted by the BIC Vice-President Zhao Ruigang.
About the base
At the event, the BIC was officially appointed as the Beijing practice base for the online literacy education of juveniles. A practice area for juveniles' online literacy education has been set up at the BIC, where on-site teaching will be carried out through various forms such as online litigation experience, observation of court hearings, moot court, and law-themed murder mystery games. A standardized online literacy course has also been developed, which focuses on areas such as building of an online morality, cultivation of online rule-of-law awareness, development of online surfing capability, and protection of personal and property safety, providing professional, menu-style and customized services for students, parents, schools and society at large.
About the guidebook
With lively comics, detailed case analysis and Q&A style layout, the guidebook for the online protection of minors is a publication suitable for both children and their parents, and is a practical guide to effectively improve their online literacy.
The digital judge "Xiao Wei"
Keeping up with the digital age, the BIC has applied digital technologies and created the digital judge "Xiao Wei" with an appearance that appeals to minors, which was debuted at the event.
Xiao Wei is capable of providing service guidance for litigants in case trials, assisting judges to carry out teaching activities, showing minor audiences around the base, and even serving as a non-player character in moot court and mystery games in place of a judge.
Both the guidebook and the digital judge, which are presented in a lively form and offer targeted content, are the results of the BIC's efforts in exploring diversified online literacy education measures for minors in the digital era.
