A system for the origin co-governance of copyright disputes launched by the Beijing Internet Court (BIC) was recently named as one of the 10 most outstanding copyright-related cases and projects between 2020 and 2021.

China's first government-judiciary coordination mechanism for copyright

The system, known as "e-system", is based on the BIC's new dispute origin governance mode, which requires coordination between the government and the judicial system.

Since first being applied to photo-related copyright disputes, it has been expanded to disputes over music products, internet finance and online shopping.

Co-governance by BIC and copyright authority

To ensure the healthy development of the digital copyright market, the BIC and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Copyright have been working together to set up a unified standard for copyright registration and court trials.

As a result of their cooperation, a verdict was given this March in the first copyright case in which evidence was collected from both sides' blockchain systems.

Mediation-based copyright dispute resolution

The BIC and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Copyright have also jointly launched China's first copyright dispute mediation platform to resolve disputes through methods other than litigation.

The BIC has not only adopted cutting-edge technologies like big data and blockchain, but also strengthened its cooperation with administrative departments and industrial organizations.

In doing so, it has reduced the number of lawsuits over copyright disputes by rooting out the causes of such disputes.
